Blood Drive Jo
2022-Present
Driven by a passion to raise awareness about blood donations, I launched the first-ever blood drive on my school campus in 2022, Blood Drive Jo. The initiative reached over 30,000 people on social media, brought in more than 75 donors, and collected enough blood to potentially save 225 lives. Today, it’s a proud annual tradition, and I am currently organizing our third drive.
Listen to my presentation at the MYP Personal Project Exhibition, summarizing the journey of organizing the first blood drive:
Learning Goal:
to learn about the procedure for donating blood to a patient
Product Goal:
to increase blood donation awareness within the ABS community, inspiring action and fostering a lasting impact ohe wider Jordanian community
Combining my passions for medicine and helping others, I embarked on a journey to address the pressing issue of blood donation in my Jordanian community. After conducting extensive research, visiting national blood banks, and shadowing healthcare professionals, I identified a significant lack of awareness surrounding blood donations. This realization fueled my determination to organize Blood Drive Jo, the first blood drive on my school campus, in 2022.
The planning and organization of the event required immense dedication and collaboration. I developed essential skills in project management, communication, and leadership while working with various stakeholders, including local healthcare centers, my school, and the King Hussein Cancer Center. Over the course of nine months, we meticulously planned every detail, from logistics to marketing strategies, through countless meetings and discussions. I designed promotional materials, utilized social media effectively to raise awareness, and delivered several presentations to my school community. Our campaign reached over 30,000 people across Amman, Jordan.
Blood Drive Jo exemplified the truth in Kurt Hahn's words: 'There is more in us than we know.'
The success of Blood Drive Jo has inspired me, along with the ABS community, to establish it as an annual tradition within our community. Our aim is to continually give back and raise awareness about the critical need for blood donation. As the slogan of Blood Drive Jo emphasizes: "Give blood, save lives."
